Next steps for the establishment of the new national mental health consumer organisation
Jan 24th, 2012 by admin
The online Expressions of Interest (EOI) process for participation on a mental health Consumer Reference Group (CRG) has opened today.
The CRG will provide advice to an existing well-established non-government body, which will be responsible for establishing the infrastructure of the new national mental health consumer organisation. It is intended these auspice arrangements will be in place for about two years to assist the new organisation to transition into independence with strong and sustainable foundations.
The Government is currently giving consideration to a non-government body to undertake this auspicing role, and will be announced in the coming months. The CRG will be comprised of members with a diverse range of experience, skills, knowledge and backgrounds; and who have a commitment to a shared vision leading to improved quality of life, social justice and inclusion for people with mental illness in Australia.
The Department of Health and Ageing is coordinating Expressions of Interest for the CRG through an on-line process. For the purposes of this process, the term ‘mental health consumer’ is used, and is defined as follows: “a person with a lived experience of mental health problems / mental illness”). Information about the role of the CRG and how to apply is available from 3pm today at www.health.gov.au/mentalhealth.
Expressions of interest can be submitted until Monday 4pm AEDT 20 February 2012.
I would like to be part of a reference group on mental health as I’ve seen some of the things that happen from both sides of the fence. I suffer major depression and have been on different antidepressants for more than 20 years, plus for 13 of those years I worked as a researcher in a general hospital psychiatric unit. However, I live in Adelaide, SA. Is that a problem?
I’ll put together a proper submission anyway.
Hi thanks for reading our blog and being an active participant. As far as joining the consumer organisation you would need to contact the dept to get all the additional details. Cheers
Try predator health, 50% of mental health patient clients are non compliant, why? because they are being poisoned against their wishes into despair, its as simple as that, and what does that tell you, it tells me they’re arrogant predators, it tells them the 50% of non compliant are uninsightfull, but their 50% of compliant are insightful, you don’t have to be einstein to work out do ya.
